“Towering genius disdains a beaten path. It seeks regions hitherto unexplored.”
— Abraham Lincoln
Sitting at my desk and recalling the past ten weeks I spent at Monetate, all I can think about is how lucky I was to be given the opportunity to work at such an ideal company and how much I’ve benefited from all I’ve learned by working with talented engineers during the whole experience.
Together with two other engineering interns, Kiril Zvezdarov and Nitin Iyer, and under the guidance of Ram Parthasarathy, we developed a feature that allows our clients to generate screenshots of actions they created as part of their marketing campaigns. They can select multiple browsers and mobile devices from which to generate the screenshots, allowing them to broaden and speed up their quality-assurance testing.
We began by holding brainstorming sessions, then we set up goals in each sprint plan meeting, talked with each other about our progress every day at scrum, received help and feedback from many people, and finally got the product shipped by the end of the internship.
For me personally, as a student majoring in electrical engineering, I had a huge interest in programming but lacked real-world experience. I did not really know what it would be like to work as a software engineer or whether I was interested enough to make it my future career. My internship at Monetate has encouraged me 100% to pursue software engineering. I got to work on so much during my internship, and I enjoyed learning about it all. I felt so proud seeing our product work well in the end, and I know I can be a better software engineer by learning more.
It was very challenging working at Monetate, since we are constantly seeking new ways to benefit our clients, but also, it was such a blessing to work here, since Monetate provided us the freedom and environment to do cool things, and all the people were nice and kind and willing to help you all the time.
Just like Ashton Kutcher said at the Teen Choice Awards, “The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart and being thoughtful and being generous.” I think that describes everyone I met at Monetate during my unforgettable internship experience.
